WHAT IS MUSIC SHARING?
Music Sharing is a participatory music workshop where everyone has something to share.
You don’t need to be a professional musician, and you don’t need to know a particular musical tradition.
Over one weekend, we learn songs from each other, arrange them together and turn them into a shared performance.
No sheet music. We learn by ear.
WHO CAN JOIN?
You are welcome if you…
- sing or play an instrument
- have experience in one musical tradition or not
- usually play by ear or usually read music
- are used to performing or have never performed with a group like this
- want to share a song from your culture or simply learn from others
All musical backgrounds are welcome.
It’s good that you know at least the basics of your instrument or that you are happy to join with your voice.
What kind of music is shared?
Whatever music people bring with them, that is related to their culture. It could be a popular, folk or traditional song from where they are from.
The repertoire changes with every group because the participants bring the music.
If you have any doubts, we’re happy to help you choose a fitting piece to share.
ONE WEEKEND, ONE SHARED REPERTOIRE

We meet, listen and the facilitators share the first song
Saturday
We learn songs from others, play and experiment
Sunday
We rehearse and work on the arrangements with the ensemble
One week later
We perform together at the Story Sharing Café
WHY MUSIC SHARING?
Music carries stories.
It connects us to places, people, languages, memories and ways of seeing the world.
The Music Sharing Workshop grew out of a Story Sharing Café in Merirasti, where conversations about culture and belonging led to a simple question:
What would happen if we shared our music in the same way we share our stories?
Music Sharing was born from that question.
The workshop creates a space where people don’t simply listen to music from different cultures. They meet the people who carry that music, learn from one another and make something together.
Who facilitates Music Sharing?
Music Sharing is facilitated by musicians who are interested not only in performing music, but in how people learn, share and create music together.

Workshop facilitators
“Together, we create the framework for each Music Sharing workshop while leaving room for the participants to shape the music. We bring different musical backgrounds and approaches, but the repertoire itself comes from the people in the room.”
Manu Rosales is a guitarist, singer and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His musical practice is rooted in South American folk and popular music. He studied the Master’s in Global Music at the Sibelius Academy. In Music Sharing, he brings experience in collaborative arrangements, learning by ear and creating connections between different musical traditions.
Stephanie Kobori is a singer and clarinetist from São Paulo, Brazil, currently based between Finland and Germany. Her work focuses on music education, community music and transcultural music-making. She is finishing the Master’s degree in Cultural Diversity in Music Education from the University of Hildesheim and brings particular attention to how people learn from one another through music.
Livia Schweizer is an Italian musician and doctoral researcher at the University of the Arts Helsinki. Her practice explores contemporary music, free improvisation and deep listening. In Music Sharing, she brings tools for listening, improvising and responding to one another, opening up space for musical ideas to emerge and be integrated to the pieces.
