Orion Boughton is a Portland-based music producer, saxophonist, and artist. When not playing the baritone saxophone, they go by ”DJ Jorts” – making music characterized by a mix of rap, hyperpop with autotuned vox, and heavy production. During 2023, Orion noticed a resurgence of jorts. After reminiscing over this fun and quirky fashion item, they hit the studio with the personal mission of bringing this stylistic phenomenon to the forefront of music.

Kietoutumo – Devina Boughton ja JP Jyväsjärvi (FI/US)

Kietoutumon tuotannoissa uudet sävellykset ja perinteiset sävelmät liittyvät musiikillisiksi parivaljakoiksi. Toisistaan inspiroituen teokset muodostavat harmonisen kudoksen. Osa sävellyksistä on luotu täydentämään perinnemelodiaa. Toisinaan prosessi on alkanut säveltämisestä ja perinteisempi kappale on liitetty omaan tuotokseen.Pääosin pianon ja trumpetin vuorovaikutukseen perustuva soitto johdattaa kuulijan vaikuttavien melodioiden ja kuulaiden äänikerrosten muodostamaan maisemaan. Muusikot ovat kotoisin eri puolilta valtamerta ja ammentavat sävellyksiinsä inspiraatiota myös muista musiikkityyleistä.

Kietoutumo’s sound entities are inspired by how their original compositions and traditional tunes inspire,inform and cultivate each other. These tunes have been arranged; interspersed, intertwined, interlocked and fused together with a sense of playfulness, wonder and integration of past and future into the present moment. In the space between captivating melodies and new terrain, here lies folk music re-imagined. The intertwined sounds of trumpet and piano complement and contrast each other, bringing a fresh twist to more traditional folk instrumentation.

TOMMIE BLACK-ROFF (FI/UK)

Tommie Black-Roff is a Helsinki based musician and composer who grew up in Cornwall in the far south west of the UK. From a young age was immersed in local Cornish folk, classical and church music, settling on the accordion and piano as his main instruments. After a brief stint as an Ethnomusicologist, in 2017 he moved to the Sweden as part of the NoFo group Farandi. In the Nordics Tommie delved into Swedish and Finnish folk music, while also branching into improvisation, dance and electronics. He is active with the bands TEYR, Ville & Tommie and Värivarjo. He also loves dancing and salad.
